News & Events- Adapted Recreation DayMagee Rehabilitation Hospital’s Wheelchair Sports Program is partnering with the Pennsylvania Center for Adapted Sports and Temple University’s Disability Resources and Services to host an Adapted Recreation Day on May 22nd, 2010. This event will take place at Temple University and will showcase numerous recreational activities for individuals with disabilities. The Rec Day will be free to all participants, so please get the word out to everyone. A large segment of the event will be set up as a Paralympic Experience, introducing students, teachers, parents, and health care professionals to Paralympic sports. Details are below.
Date/Time/Location:
Saturday, May 22nd, 2010
9am to 5pm
Temple University
15th and Norris Streets,

We have secured four indoor basketball courts, two outdoor tennis courts, an outdoor
track, and (tentatively) an indoor swimming pool. Free parking is available to all
participants, guests, and volunteers.

We will demonstrate the following sports at the Rec Day. Guests can try out
the different sports and receive information about how to get
involved with the various programs.

Wheelchair Rugby
Wheelchair Tennis
Power Soccer
Wheelchair Racing
Pennsylvania Center for Adapted Sports:
Swimming
Sled Hockey

Kayaking (if pool is available)
In addition to the demonstrations, we will have tables with resources on
other activities like adapted flying, surfing, art, and curling.
Participants:
There are many organizations in the Delaware Valley that provide adapted recreational opportunities. However, there is virtually no collaboration among the different entities. We hope the Rec Day to be a one-stop shop for disabled individuals to get exposed to a multitude of different activities. Please send this out to your contacts so we can get as many people as we can to enjoy this event. The Rec Day is FREE to all participants.
Food:
Lunch will be provided for all participants, guests, volunteers, and vendors.
